In many remote villages of India and many other developing countries, women have to carry water vessels from well (or any other source of water) to their residence and cover a great distance several times to meet daily water requirement of their family for drinking, washing etc.
Women carry this load on their head, which can result in pain in their head. Also, the load can neither be put on the head nor can be put down without any help from some one else. This compulsion makes it very difficult for these women to take rest enroute to their residence, as they cannot put the vessel down even if they are tired and feel like taking rest.
Some village women approached Shri Khimjibhai with this age-old problem and requested him to provide some solution to this problem.
Khimjibhai gave a deep thought to the problem and contemplated several ideas, which could solve this problem within limited resources available with these women. After working on several alternatives, he made a simple devise to solve this problem. He handed over this simple devise to rural women, who could easily transfer load on their head to the shoulder and vice versa. This could be done with two extended supporting rod from circular disk that is put on the head to keep the vessel. So, when any lady wants to give some rest to her head, she can place these two supporting rods on her shoulder, which in turn raises the circular disc just above her head. There is no need of help from a third person for this transition.
Thus, this simple devise has solved an age-old problem for rural women.
