A variety of cotton, Kalyan (V-797) - known as "Kala Kapaas", grown in semi - arid regions of Gujarat has a very tedious post-harvesting process of removing the lint (Cotton fiber with seeds) from the shells of the cotton balls.. This process was done manually where women folk do the job with hands by breaking the pods and separating cotton from it. This machine eradicates this drudgery and the work can be carried out more efficiently.

The innovator of the device, Sh. Mansukhbhai Patel, is a self trained electrical engineer, having keen interest in electrical and mechanical appliances. His sensitivity towards poor and the underprivileged can be gauged by his innovation Cotton Stripper.
